PDX Next Terminal Core Mezzanine Concept Design

We partnered with ZGF in a concepting phase for the digital wall on the mezzanine level for the new PDX Airport Terminal. Through a discovery workshop with the client, we explored potential narrative and visual approaches, physical forms, and dynamic programming opportunities. We discovered that provoking a biophilic response, aka a response to nature, in passengers is of paramount importance in order to reduce their stress levels in the terminal. Finding inspiration in the forests, coastline, wildlife, and waterfalls of the Pacific Northwest, the digital canvas offers an exciting large-scale opportunity to celebrate the natural wonders of our region. The screen’s content can be flexible and dynamic, programmed to respond to the time of day and/or the crowdedness of the terminal.
