Photography Interpretive Gallery
Exhibit

We created the Photography Interpretive Gallery, where unconventional interactive installations offer visitors a fresh perspective, not only on how we shape photographs, but also on how photographs shape our perception of the world. Using analog controls inspired by classic camera dials, visitors dive into rich stories behind some of the museum’s most complex pieces, whether they explore the impact of photography on California’s history, discover candid interviews with a variety of artists, or represent themselves using only the contents of their pockets.

The beauty is in the details here: the subtle lines of an interactive kiosk, the tactile knob to browse images, the super-restrained typography. This space provides a place for contemplation, where the photographs can assert their presence without shouting.
